If you can't cheese everyone, you've got to cheese yourself!
Welcome To Our Farm!
Chocolate Sheep Creamery is a beautiful organic sheep farm nestled amongst the verdant valleys of Doomy Gulch, Washington, producing specialty sheep cheeses for both restaurants and the individual connoisseur.
Chocolate Cheese
Yes, you heard right! Our signature product is a delightfully creamy chocolate cheese containing cocoa, a little sugar, and the finest cream of our spring milking. In addition, we produce many other sheep cheeses including classic Feta, Roquefort, and Ewetost (a special blend of sheep's milk Gjetost). For a detailed description of each with times of availability and pictures, please visit our Other Cheeses page.
How It All Began
Chocolate Sheep Creamery got its start when we welcomed a lost lamb into the Blythe family. It was 1988 and we had just moved to an 80-acre farm in Doomy Gulch, as yet under-utilized but budding with promise (and a lot of fireweed). The lamb became a ewe, whom we named Charlene, and we quickly purchased some other sheep to keep her company. Soon the family of sheep was growing, the milk was flowing... and the Chocolate Sheep Creamery was born as we explored cheese as a way of using up Charlene's wonderful milk.
Today, our farm includes more than 30 milking sheep and many more lambs. We have been dedicated to organic methods of farming since the beginning and were certified as an organic cheese distributer in 1996. Our sheep roam freely on our farm and eat only hay and other feed grown without pesticides, and have no animal-based additives in their food. Each batch of cheese is carefully monitored and cured, and what we lack in sheer volume we make up in the quality and care that goes into each wheel and slice. The logo of Charlene the "Chocolate Sheep" graces every package of cheese produced by Chocolate Sheep Creamery and has become a widely-recognized symbol of our unique brand.
